Birthday Bears

We finally made it to Grouse Mountain on Julie's birthday. We had a fab day but it was freezing up there (about 10 degrees!) and very overcast so the views weren't what we would have liked but none the less we had a great time! Grouse Mountain is primarily a ski field in winter and in summer has all this over cool stuff like the World Famous Lumberjack Show, The Bird Show and most importantly the Grizzly Bears!

This is a couple of the rescued raptor birds. They were huge and really quite spectacular and we don't even like birds!

The lumberjacks climb these trees like the tree scouts used to do in the old days - all they used was sprig shoes and a rope around the pole and up they went.

Not sure what mountain this is but the snow on top is for real... Remember its summer here...
As we were leaving on massive gondola down the mountain the cloud came right in and totally obsured the view on the way down.
Ta da! The grizzly bears! These 2 guys are orphans and have made their home in a 5 acre sanctury at Grouse. Sorry the photos aren't great but its hard to take a pic of a moving bear.

I'm coming to get you...
They are so gracious and smooth in their movement.

Apparently the rescued wolves used to be in with the bears but one of the bears ate one of the wolves... YUM!
